This is a basic pattern for mittens with thumb gussets and thrumming. It is generously sized to fit most folks. Gauge is not overly critical but you will want to be close to the recommend gauge for the yarn - otherwise your mittens will change size somewhat.

I used one skein of bulky weight yarn (~130 yards) to complete the mittens and between 2 and 3 ounces of roving for my thrumming material.
