BABY ORCHARD IN BLOOM
Circular Textured Baby Blanket/Shawl
This pattern uses charts.
This Banket/Shawl is a “pi” pattern that is worked in the round from the center out in sections of concentric circles. The number of stitches is doubled each time the number of rounds is twice that worked in the previous section. This method allows you to work a complete pattern in each section without having to incorporate increases into the stitch pattern. The increases are worked between sections with (yo, k1) across the entire round before starting the next section. This design has lots of texture. All yarn overs are worked through the back loop on the following round in order to reduce the size of the holes.
Yarn: Patons Beehive Baby Sport (color #9007 (Vintage Lace) - 100g = 328m/359 yds) OR other sport weight yarn
Yardage: 1200m/1300 yds
Needles: 3.5mm (4 US) double-pointed needles (DPNs) and circular needles (2 or 3 different lengths up to 100cm (40 inches)). If you wish to work magic loop then only one long-cord circular needle will be required. If using pinhole (Emily Ocker’s) cast-on you will also need a crochet hook that is same size as (or close to) knitting needles (instructions for this cast-on included in pattern).
Gauge: for reference 24 sts = 10 cm (4 inches) in stocking stitch on 3.5mm (4 US) needle (exact gauge is not too crucial but note that a different gauge can affect the quantity of yarn required and the finished size of the shawl). If desired, work a swatch from one of the charts to see that you like the tension and drape of your fabric. Adjust needle size if necessary. Note - be careful of working too tightly - the shawl needs to have some give to it so it will lay flat after blocking.
Size: suggested diameter after blocking is 102cm (40 inches)
