Meet our Baby Owl. He’s cute, cuddly and very lovable.

This Baby Owl is suitable for advanced beginner knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches and standard knitting terms. Our Baby Owl is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 15 m of medium weight yarn for the body and ears and 1 m of medium weight yarn for the eyes. You’ll also need 1 m of yarn to outline the eyes. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the eyes and beak and stuffing (we use ecofil or wool). This will let you create a baby owl that’s approximately 7 cm (3 inches) from top to bottom.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
