Meet Baby S - this sweet little crochet squirrel is the perfect small size, but not too small. This stuffie works up super quick - less than 2 hours for me - and uses less than 1 of skein of the primary color and very small amounts of a few more colors including a bit of fur yarn.
Materials:
Hook: Size G/4mm hook
Yarn: Baby S was made with Impeccable in Barley and a scrap of cream yarn by Caron in Lace. For the tail, I have used a leftover scrap ball of Yarn Bee Fur the Moment in Husky. (This is the same yarn used for my Baby Wolf pattern if you are making more than one baby) Impeccable is 285 yds/4.5oz260m/127.5g. It is a #4 Yarn. You will need less than half the skein of the main color and for the tail I had a ball of fur left about the size of a baseball – between the Wolf pattern and the squirrel tail you will probably only use half a skein.
-A note on using FUR Yarn:
Fur yarn is easy to work with if you DO NOT need to see your stitches. You won’t really be able to clearly see the stitches. You will need to feel them. You Should/MUST use a stitch marker. This yarn is also very forgiving and no mistakes will be seen. The main thing with this yarn is to make sure you crochet all the numbers of stitches per round – so, just use your stitch marker and get the right number by the time you get back to it – you will NOT be able to see your stitches. Just feel for them.
-Safety Eyes (or yarn to embroider if you choose) and needle to embroider face. You can see in the picture above that for Baby S, I used small brown safety eyes.
-Stuffing. I have used Poly-Fill brand stuffing, but feel free to use what you prefer.
This toy worked up for me to be 8” from the top of the ear to foot. This is a modification to my Baby Wolf pattern. If you like this pattern, I have several new baby animals listed.
Baby S is a written out pattern with photos and tutorials and a good beginner crochet pattern. It is a 7-page downloadable pdf. Check back with me often because I have a bunch of new baby animals on their way.
If you have amigurumi knowledge and know how to work in the round - ex. 6,12,18,24 etc with increases and decreases you won’t have any trouble.
I am here all to help and support you in any way I can after you download my pattern.
I would love to see your baby squirrels made from this pattern so please tag me on IG @theburgundybasket
