Pattern is for a baby hat, knit flat and joined. Ribbing forms by alternating sections of stockinette and reverse stockinette stitching, rendering a very stretchy hat that fits a variety of ages. It can be knit with any type of sock yarn, fingering or light fingering weight. Knit on size 3 needles, gauge does not need to be strictly precise.

Pattern can be adjusted to fit knitter’s preferences and abilities. I wrote it with a provisional cast-on, so the finished product is “seamless” when seamed with a kitchener stitch, but could be knit with a regular cast-on and -off and whichever finishing technique the knitter prefers.

Size can be adjusted by adding stitches to the cast-on (to make hat longer once finished), or adding more row repeats (to make the hat wider).
