The hat is a basic rectangle worked back and forth in the back loop single crochet stitch, giving it a ribbed effect. This pattern can be used with virtually any weight of yarn to make any size of hat.

Background
This simple, beenie design was born when I was cooking up project ideas for a crochet class I was teaching, and wanted a small project that incorporated both single crochet and slip stitch, with a little texture.

After the class, I gave it to my friend who owns a yarn shop. She put it on her check-out counter, and we were amazed at how many people asked for the pattern. After writing it out for a few people, I decided just to publish it here, on Ravelry.
