Someone pointed out to me after I knit these that the cables look a bit like a backbone, which suits them well because a backbone is just what it takes to stand up to our windy winters. Slipped stitches hide the jog in the stripes and highlight the cable pattern.

The pattern assumes familiarity with cabling and basic cuff-down sock construction techniques. It will go a lot faster if you know how to work cables without a cable needle - I have not included a tutorial for this in the pattern since there are a number of good ones, such as this one, already available. The cable pattern is currently provided only in charted form.

Two sizes are included:
Medium (50 stitches), to fit foot circumference of 9 inches
Large (54 stitches), to fit foot circumference of 10 inches

Sizes are listed for a snug fit, but these would also be a good option to size up for winter layering. Adjust gauge if necessary for a good fit, keeping in mind that the slipped stitch cables are less elastic than stockinette. Leg and foot length are fully adjustable.
