Today I want to share with you how to make your own crochet bag handle, which you can use with a Furoshiki bag or any crochet bag you would like to make. Furoshiki is a type of Japanese wrapping cloth traditionally used to transport clothes, gifts and other items. It a wonderful way in which we can reduce and reuse what we have in our homes to create a beautiful practicel bag or wrap a gift without the need of gift paper or cellotape. Basicallly it is origami for fabric. Creating folds & knots in the fabric to serve a practical purpose.

For this tutorial I up-cycled an old linen table cloth which I was going to be throw away (as for me it had served its purpose and was no longer presentable to use as it had a few stains). I cut my table cloth to a 68cm square then double folded back the ends & created a 1cm seam, reducing my square down to 64 x 64cm. Once this was done I was ready to make my crochet bag handles.

3.5mm (US E) Crochet hook

Two 2cm diameter buttons
Two 5cm diameter rings

Gauge: 15st x 14 rows using sc over 10 x 10cms. Using the smallest crochet hook you can with your chosen yarn to create tight stitches, this will help your handle in shape and firm.

Pattern included a step by step tutorial to fold your fabric to make your own Furoshiki bag.
