I have used circular needles number5 knitting needles number5, crochet hook number 4, a little thicker needle to attach the yarn and sew the lady and a thinner needle to embroider the face.
A little different wool yarn and a little padding to the head and arms.
I have used a thicker wool yarn suitable for felting.
Use residual yarns, perfect, only they are 100 % wool. No superwash yarns. Of course you can knit it without felting but then take a thinner yarn and knit needles or shrink and shorten rows.

For the opening in the back I have knitted just garter stitch on a circular needle back and forth.
