Baja Sunrise was inspired by the way the sun’s rays hit the ocean waves as it rises over the Baja peninsula. This simple shawl has yarn over increases that create a semi-circular shape. Baja Sunrise uses approximately 200 yards each of two colors of DK weight yarn. Gradual striping leads the way into a contrasting border in a simple variation on old shale lace. Finished with a picot bind off, this shawl is a great intro to lace and shawl knitting for the intermediate knitter. Happy knitting!

Be sure to check out the fingering weight version of this shawl, the Baja Sunset Shawl if you prefer to knit with lighter yarn!

Colors shown in Tosh DK:
-Orange: Mexican Grilled Street Corn - Limited Edition color for June 2015, only at Jimmy Beans Wool
-Blue/Green: Cousteau

Pattern calls for just 1 skein of each color.

Please Note: I’ve been getting questions about gauge on this pattern because the yardage use is very close. The gauge listed is the blocked gauge of the finished shawl. The unblocked gauge is closer to 17 sts to 4” in St st but I always recommend washing and blocking your swatch to get the most accurate gauge possible. Additionally, I finished with 10g remaining of each color which means I used approximately 200 yds of each color. If you know you tend to use more yarn than a pattern calls for, I recommend buying extra yardage just in case you run out. Or, removing the final 2 rows of Color A would be fine if needed to conserve yardage.
