Bakerboy Hat / Newsboy Hat
ABOUT THIS PATTERN
Crochet your own Bakerboy Hat! This timeless design, brings a touch of style to any ensemble. Create it yourself in your favourite colour, or make several so you have one for every outfit!
I have graded this as an ‘intermediate’ pattern as it includes stitches such as increasing and decreasing and there is some construction involved too. That said, if you are confident with all of the below you will have no problem creating this pattern. The pattern is also a low sew crochet pattern - the only sewing involved is adding the buttons and the front band - and those are optional.
The pattern will create an adult size hat which will be approx 55cm in circumference.
YOU WILL NEED:
YARN: Approx 200-250 metres aran 100% acrylic such as Stylecraft Special (this is around 1 - 1.5 balls.) Note: it is possible to make this hat using only one ball of Stylecraft Special Aran, but some pattern testers have needed slightly more. It’s therefore recommended that you purchase two balls in the same colour and dye batch to ensure you have enough.
HOOK: 5 mm (or required size to achieve gauge)
STITCH MARKERS
EMBROIDERY NEEDLE
BUTTONS: Two buttons approximately 17mm in diameter.
PLASTIC INTERFACING: Used to stiffen the peak. This can be plastic canvas or you could recycle used laundry liquid or milk bottles which will be more cost effective and kinder to the environment. You may need to cut a few layers to achieve the desired thickness.
