This pattern is inspired by the cute owlbear cub from Baldurs’s Gate III. I am no designer. This is only a second pattern I have ever created, so I am certain, some parts can be messy and could have been made much better, but well…. This is what I have made.

I hope the instructions will be clear, I have really tried to explain everything properly and included also a lot of pictures. I guess there is a chance of some mistakes. I hope there will not be any, but if that happens… I recommend you to improvise (if possible) to get the correct amount of stitches in the next round. It may not seem like very professional advise, but that is what I was doing all the way… just improvising to get the desired shape.

The pattern is free for anyone, so please feel free to put the link to the pattern wherever you like but I would appreciate if you would not upload the file itself to different pages. Because then I would not be able to do any updates in those copies in the future (should I decide to do some).

A special thanks to my tester Digitalduckie for testing the pattern and valuable comments to improve the pattern.

Notes and supplies:

  • unless stated otherwise, everything is crocheted in continuous rounds using a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round
  • parts in are repeated
  • number in () at the end of each round is number of stitches you should have in that round
  • body and the bottom of the legs are stuffed firmly, ears and tail are not stuffed at all
  • the owlbear is approximately 10 cm tall (ears included) and 14 cm long (this can vary depending on the size of the hook and yarn you use)
  • used yarn: Jeans/Gina from YarnArt – 1 ball for: ecru/beige, black and yellow, the 2 latter will suffice just some leftovers if you have available, you will need only a very little of those colours. For brown I recommend 2 balls. I used 1 and a little bit of the 2nd one.
  • crochet hook: most of the parts are made with 2,5 mm hook. For few parts I have used 3 mm (this is always mentioned with the corresponding parts.)
  • safety eyes (7 mm), if you use a different hook size and a different yarn, adjust the size of the eyes accordingly.
