I drew this pattern from a mitten once bought at a Christmas market in Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius’ old town. One can see this pattern at Lithuanian handicraft markets in many qualities and color combinations. The name Baltic Rose is given because of the striking resemblance with the tistle (Eryngium Maritimum) so common along the whole cost of the Baltic Sea.

The thumb is knitted in the same pattern as the palm of the hand and has no increased sts. The cuff has this characteristic edge with two yarns and Latvian braid. It also sits nicely around the wrist as it is knitted with 3 sts in main color and 1 purl in contrasting color. Thus you may use the same size of needles from cast-on to bind-off. Pick two colors for the main pattern and use left-over-yarn as a contrast color for the cuffs.
