Inspired by the lovely shape of the many turrets of Castle Fraser (Scotland), especially the bell-shaped one which leads to the very top of the Round Tower, flanked on each side with beautifully carved stone balustrades…

  • Slouchy version for Child, Teenager and Adult sizes. Child Slouchy [Teenager/Adult Small , Adult Medium/Large] To fit head circumference: 51 [56: 61] cm (20 [22: 24] in)

  • Slouchy Adult Small shown in: The Knitting Goddess 4ply High Twist BFL (Bluefaced Leicester) (1 x 100g, 385 m / 400 yds), in Teal

  • Toddler Beanie shown in: Cecilia’s Handspun Yarns, 100% Bluefaced Leicester, 2-ply, 18wpi, approx. 165 m / 180 yds for 50 g

  • Baby Beanie shown in: in John Arbon Textiles 100% Organically Farmed Falklands Merino (1 x 100g, approx. 133 m / 145 yds) ― Baby beanie used approx. 30 g

Needles and Notions

  • 2.75 mm (US 2) needles – 40 cm (16 in)circular needles to work body of hat, and DPNs or 2 circ. needles to work crown shaping. Or size required to achieve gauge. Note: to knit smaller sizes, DPNs or 2 circ. needles are recommended throughout.
  • 2.50 mm (US 1.5) needles – 40 cm (16 in)circular needles to work brim (one size smaller than for body of hat).
  • Crochet hook and scrap yarn
  • Cable Needle, Darning needle, Stitch Markers

Gauge
28 sts / 10cm (4 in) measured over textured check in the round, lightly blocked to preserve the bumpy texture.
