This pattern is written for the bao keychain/plushie for you all dimsum/bao/XLB/Soup Dumpling lovers. This is an easy amigurumi project, with easy-to-follow written instructions even if you are just getting started with amigurumi or crochet in general.

You can use this pattern to make bao keychains by using worsted weight yarn, so you can bring these colorful delicious baos with you wherever you go, or you can make bao plushies by using blanket yarn. Either way, these keychains/plushies are extremely cute and would make the perfect gift for yourself and your loved ones.

Difficulty Level: Easy

See bottom for details on different difficulty levels.

The patterns use basic crochet techniques (CH, SL, SC, HDC) and the use of magic loop is optional as I also included a tip on how to start without the magic loop. The pattern is worked in the round but very quick and easy to work up so it is the perfect project for you to get started with amigurumis!

Hook Size & Yarn Weight: 4mm or smaller if using worsted weight yarn, or 6mm or smaller if using blanket yarn.

Recommended Yarn: For the baos in most of the photos, I used 100% cotton yarn from Sugar ’n Cream. Each skein is 2.5oz and can make quite a few baos. This yarn provides amazing structure and will withstand being carried around on your keychain. I also made plushie-sized baos using Bernat blanket yarn and they turned out exceptionally soft and cute.

Size: The bao should measure around 3 inches wide and 3 inches tall if using worsted weight yarn, or 5 inches wide and 5 inches tall if using blanket yarn. The size may vary depending on how tight you are crocheting, the hook size you use, and how much stuffing you put in your bao.

The pattern is written in standard US terms. The pattern is not charted but has detailed instructions and photos.
