Barbie Box Socks
Pricing update: I have increased my prices to more accurately represent the work that has gone into the making of my patterns. All my patterns have increased in prices, however my newer designs have increased more than my old ones, as I feel I have learned a lot over the years and the quality of my newer designs is higher. The price listed reflects what I believe is fair for the work put into the design, however I understand that the price increases may be inaccessible to some and am offering some tiered discounts for those that need them.
A “Choose What You Pay” model is available for this pattern, allowing both financial accessibility and fair pricing. The buyer may pay what they are able while still valuing the hard work invested to create this design. Use the codes below in order to pay the price listed after each. Choose whichever price works best for you!
- No Code – Full Price = $11.00 CAD
- PK10 – 10% off = $9.90 CAD
- PK20 – 20% off = $8.80 CAD
- PK30 – 30% off = $7.70 CAD
I also offer a Buy 3, Get 1 Free discount! Add any 4 of my patterns to your cart, and use the code BUY3GET1 to get the 4th pattern free! Note: the free pattern will be the lowest priced pattern.
The Barbie Box Socks is a super fun sock design created in collaboration with the 2023 Barbie Advent boxes from Pasley Knits. The socks are a simple sporty style sock pattern, with a fun monogrammed Barbie B on the sides! I will also have other letter options for you in case the Barbie B is not your thing! The socks are knit cuff down, with a heel flap and gusset, and a wedge toe. The monogrammed B (or other letter of your choice) will be added on after using duplicate stitch.
Size:
Measurement is the circumference around the ball of the foot
Size - Circumference (unstretched) - Circumference (stretched)
X-Small - ~7 inches / 17.8 cm - Up to ~ 8 inches / 20.25 cm
Small - ~7.5 inches / 19 cm - Up to ~ 8.5 inches / 22 cm
Medium - ~8 inches / 20.3 cm - Up to ~ 9/9.5 inches / 23-24 cm
Large - ~8.5 inches / 21.6 cm - Up to ~ 9.5/10 inches / 24-25 cm
X-Large - ~9 inches / 22.9 cm - Up to ~ 11/11.5 inches / 28-29 cm
These measurements are based off of my sample piece, yours may vary slightly depending on gauge and tension. Please choose a size where the measurement of the circumference of the ball of your foot falls within the unstretched-stretched range. A rule of thumb that I have seen is that a sock should be made with about 10% negative ease (eg. my foot circumference is 8.5 inches, I would want a sock that has about 7.65 inch circumference), but you don’t need to follow that exactly. The length of the socks is customizable based on your foot length so only base your size on the foot circumference.
Sizes will be written in the following format throughout the pattern:
X-Small (Small, Medium, Large) X-Large
Needles recommended:
2.75 mm / US 2
Cord length at least 32-40 inches for magic loop method. You can use 9 inch circulars or DPNs instead if you wish, though the pattern is written for magic loop.
I use Kollage Soft Cable Circulars for Magic Loop knitting and they are amazing!
Note: You may need other size needles to meet gauge.
Gauge:
In stockinette, in the round, and blocked
4” x 4” (10 x 10 cm) = 32 sts x 40 rows
Make sure to block your swatch, as this can significantly change the size of your swatch depending on your fiber choice.
Note: If your stitch gauge is correct but your row gauge is off a little, you’ll be ok, because you will be customizing the # of rows used anyways to match the length of your foot.
Yarn recommended:
Any fingering/sock weight yarn that you can get gauge with. You will need one full skein and one mini for some contrast details. I recommend using a tonal or a lower contrast speckle/variegated for the main colour otherwise the contrast colour may not be super visible against it.
I used Pasley Knits Coastal Sock - 437 yds per 100g skein/87 yds per 20g mini, in the 2023 Barbie Advent Sock Set colourways.
Yardage recommended:
Size - Main Colour - Contrast Colour
X-Small - ~60 g / 262 yds - ~6 g / 26 yds
Small - ~72 g / 315 yds - ~7 g / 31 yds
Medium - ~78 g / 341 yds - ~8 g / 35 yds
Large - ~85 g / 371 yds - ~9 g / 39 yds
X-Large - ~92 g / 402 yds - ~10 g / 44 yds
Note: Yardage is an approximation. I have included a fair bit of foot length for each size so this should accommodate all foot lengths. If you have extremely long feet, I would go with a little extra yardage just to be safe!
