Self-striping becomes self-stacking when intarsia is introduced into the construction of a sock. This pattern continues the color stacking onto the foot and incorporates a simple chevron stitch pattern for added interest.
Excerpt from Bargello Knits
My next adventure in socks was to continue the bargello segments onto the foot somehow. This project shows how to do it with long color change yarn. The stitch pattern adds to the fun.
Pattern notes
Entire sock is worked flat and seamed along the top of the foot just prior to working the toe. Waste yarn is applied at selvedges to allow for a linked seam. The leg and top of foot are worked in ripple stitch pattern. The heel and sole of foot are worked as a plain bargello segment using the main ball of yarn. The toe is worked in the round as for an ordinary sock. Socks are mirror images of each other.
