Barnsbie 2 the barn owl
This .pdf crochet pattern is written in standard American crochet terms. With this very detailed pattern, you can make a super realistic looking barn owl.
This is an intermediate pattern. It’s made with basic stitches. If you’re experienced, you can go for the spotted version, but if you don’t like colour changes too much, you can leave out the grey yarn and just go for a two-coloured owl. The difficulty of this pattern lies in the face shaping. I try to explain it as thorough as possible, but it requires some extra skills rather than just crocheting.
Size
If you use the recommended yarn, your owl will be 5 inch / 13 cm tall
Materials
For this crochet owl you’ll need worsted weight yarn (Lètt Lopi) and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need three colours of yarn: white (0051), barley (1419) and grey heather (0057). For the beak you need a little bit a of pink-ish yarn. For the eyes I’ve used 11 mm animal eyes. You also need fibrefill and pellets for extra weight in the body.
The crochet pattern contains
An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. A clear and colour coded description of how to crochet and assemble the animal, with instruction images with extra notes next to the text and example pictures at the bottom to help you get everything right. All my patterns are text edited for correct English and have been tested by experienced crocheters before publishing.
Yarn
Istex Lett lopi. I strongly recommend using a fuzzy yarn because it gives the best result. Keep in mind a different type of yarn can give a different result!
Gauge is unimportant for this pattern. If the pieces are crocheted tightly enough, they will not gape visibly when stuffed. You can make a little test swap to be sure.
