ba·roque: Of, relating to, or characteristic of a style in art and architecture emphasizing dramatic, often strained effect and typified by bold, curving forms, elaborate ornamentation, and overall balance of disparate parts.

Baroque provides the experienced knitter with a challenge that is well worth the effort. The design incorporates a continuous twisted stitch pattern that travels the length of the sock and pairs of narrow cables that adorn the sides and split at the top of the heel flap. The twisted stitches continue onto the top of toe, but alternate instructions are given for a plain toe if that’s what you prefer.

The stitch pattern creates a dense fabric and I was able to squeeze one medium size sock that fits a US size 8 woman’s foot out of one 50 gm hank with 12 inches of yarn left over. For that reason, I’m suggesting 3 hanks of yarn for the medium size—or you could shorten the cuff and make one pair from 100 gms.

Two methods of creating the twisted stitches are provided, one that does not require a cable needle and one that does. I prefer not to use a cable needle, but see what works best for you.
