Barred hat is a striped, unisex hat for the whole family.
A very simple but visible technique is used to make the contrasting stripes look perfect in 1x1 ribbing.
For Barred hat you can choose your favorite color combination or use leftovers from previous projects.

Barred hat is worked bottom up seamlessly in the round with folded brim and striped pattern.
This pattern includes a very simple technique that creates perfectly looking stripes in 1x1 ribbing both on the folded brim and on the main part of the hat. You can use this technique to make your own striped pattern.

Size 1 (2, 3, 4) or Child (Teen, Adult M, Adult L)

Width (circumference, unstretched): 34 (37, 40, 43) cm / 13.5 (14.5, 15.75, 17.0)’’;
Length (with brim folded): 22 (24, 25, 27) cm / 8.75 (9.5, 10.0, 10.75)’’;
Brim length – 9 cm/3.5’’ or adjustable.
Length of the hat can be easily adjusted to desired length.
Shown in size 2 (Teen) – Blue hat and White hat with orange stripes; size 3 (Adult M) – Orange hat with white stripes.

Needles
Circular 3.5 mm (US 4) 40 -50 cm (16-20)’’ OR 80-100 cm (32-40)’’ long if using magic loop for the main part;
Set of dpns 3.5 mm (US 4) OR circular 80-100 cm (32-40)’’ long for crown shaping.
Or needle size needed to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: tapestry needle, 4 stitch markers (one in different color).

Original yarn
MC yarn 2 balls / 100 g of Drops Daisy (100% merino wool; 50g / 1.8oz – 110 m / 120 yds).
Yardage (MC): approx 130 (150, 160, 180) m / 142 (164, 175, 198) yds of similar dk weight yarn.
And
CC yarn 1 ball / 50 g of Drops Daisy (100% merino wool; 50g / 1.8oz – 110 m / 120 yds).
Yardage (CC): approx 25 (35, 40, 45) m / 27 (38, 44, 49) yds of similar dk weight yarn.

If you decide to make hat longer, you will need more yarn than estimated.
Suggested yarn: any dk weight yarn OR sport weight yarn held together with mohair lace yarn to obtain the required gauge.

Gauge
28 sts x 32 rnds = 10cm (4’’) in 1x1 ribbing, unstretched, worked in the round after blocking.
Take time to check your gauge before starting your project.
