This colorwork vest features an allover honeycomb pattern with bold vertical motifs placed at center front/back and sides; the low U-neck and hourglass shaping update this classic wardrobe staple. The vest is worked in the round and utilizes steeks at the armhole and neck openings. Upon completion of knitting, the steeks are cut; stitches are then picked up to work the bands. The ribbed trim (at armhole/neck opening and hem) is worked at a significantly denser gauge to create a firmer fabric and help maintain the shape of these areas.
Construction
- Vest is worked circularly in one piece from the bottom up. The patterns are set up at the lower edge. The Side Panel Charts are worked up to the underarm, and the Center Panel Charts are worked up to the Neck Shaping on both Front and Back. All shaping is worked within the Main Pattern Chart, a simple 4-stitch and 6-row repeat which is easy to work while shaping.
- Traditional steeks are worked at both armholes and neck opening, to allow the knitter to work in the round to the shoulders.
- After steeks are cut, ribbed bands at armhole and neck opening are picked up directly from the vest and worked in 2x2 rib.
