Subtle shades, simple stitches and interesting textures are what Basel On The Rhine is all about.
As the Rhine meanders through Basel, so does your eye as you glance upon the lovely shades in this self striping yarn. Round and round it follows the soft lines and ends in a dramatic i-cord edging.
Knit from a luxuriously soft DK, the feel against your skin is sublime, gentle and cool. Any similar DK yarn will give you the look you want, the choices are endless, the possibilities limitless.
The pattern gives two versions, one with the i-cord edging and one without.(And a third version as a separate PDF to download) I made the i-cord with a small i-cord knitter loom but you can if you wish knit it on double pointed needles, or simply omit the i-cord.
The pattern includes instruction to hand knit the i-cord if you prefer.
Pattern includes a step by step photo tutorial on how to loop the i-cord through the stitches to create the stunning finish.
I liked this so much that I am already planning on what yarn I will use to make another one. I’m wondering how this would look in a long gradient yarn. vickikj
I love the finished cowl. Just interesting enough to not be the same old thing, but easy to make. The i-cord edging weighs down the bottom so when you’re wearing it, it stays right where you put it. Definitely a unique accessory! BKlamer
Love this pattern - it was fast and easy. Doing this in cotton makes it great for warm southwest most of the winter, or cool evenings in the spring & summer in other parts of the country. Owltard
This pattern is knit in the round.
I used DK weight to keep it light and also because the i-cord maker will not work with heavier yarns.
Materials required:(pattern used Wakame Colour 105)
2 to 3 balls of 125m DK yarn. The third ball is for the i-cord edging.
And now….A third version!
The last picture is of my striped version using 2 balls of Sirdar Cotton DK in Navy and Cream, I ball of each. I have prepared directions for knitting this third version and it is available as a free download with this pattern. Simply download both PDF’s in this pattern if you wish to have all 3 versions.
If you wish to look into purchasing an i-cord loom there are links on my project page and in the pattern as well.
Thanks as always to my tech editor H. Waitte
