From Knitting Lingerie Style:

A baby doll is a small nightgown or negligee for women, often trimmed with lace and usually short enough to expose it’s matching panty.  The style originated in the 1930s for little girls, hence the name "baby doll."  However, it was transformed into a provocative garment for women when starlet Caroll Baker wore one in the notorious 1956 movie Baby Doll, based on a Tennessee Williams screenplay.

This lacy baby doll, luxurious but a little notorious as well, is knit in a pure silk yarn and comes complete with a matching thong panty
