The Basic Children’s “bottom up” sweater is constructed, as the name indicates, from the bottom up in one piece. You have your choice of knitting a cardigan or a crew neck pullover with either a round or raglan yoke.
This is a wonderful sweater for learning many new techniques, such as:
installing a pocket, provisional cast on, picking up button bands, doing a button hole, directional decreases, and learning how to follow a pattern.
I have taught this pattern for twenty years and used it to bring my beginners from scarf to sweater.
You can use the 18 inch Toy pattern, included, to learn all these techniques before you start you sweater. When you finish your sweater, you will have a beautiful set for your child and their toy.
