Basic Crop Top
The Basic Crop Top is worked from the bottom up in the round. After the body of the top is made, the work is divided into back and front. The back is worked in short rows. Then, the right half of the front with the strap is worked, followed by the left half. The straps are grafted to the back with Kitchener stitch. Make the ruffles.
EU size: 34 (36) 38 // 40 (42) 44
US size: 4 (6) 8 // 10 (12) 14
Size recommendations: EU sizes 34 (36) 38 // 40 (42) 44 correspond to chest circumference of 80 (84) 88 // 92 (96) 100 cm; 31.4 (33) 34.6 // 36.2 (37.7) 39.3 in.
The ease is negative, -6 cm (-2.3 in) to the chest circumference. When choosing the size, measure your chest circumference and subtract the ease.
For example: chest circumference is 96 cm (37.7 in), which corresponds to EU size 42. 96 – 6 = 90 cm (35.4 in) – chest width of the top.
Chest width of the top (with negative ease): 74 (78) 82 // 86 (90) 94 cm;
(29.1 (30.7) 32.2// 33.8 (35.4) 37 in).
Length of the main part of the top to the armhole: +/- 15 cm (5.9 in) for all sizes.
Height of the armhole: 19 (19.5) 20 // 20.5 (21) 21.5 cm;
(7.4 (7.6) 7.8 // 8 (8.2) 8.4 in).
Yarn: cotton, linen, merino wool or mixed yarn, 120 m/50 g (131 yds/1.7 oz).
Needles: 3.5 mm (US4) and 4 mm (US6) circular needles with a cable length of 80-100 cm (31- 39 in); 4 mm (US6) double pointed needles for the straps.
Notions: 3.5 mm (E-4) crochet hook, stitch markers, about 50 cm (20 in) of waste yarn in a contrasting color.
Totals used for a top with no ruffles: 100 (100) 100 // 100 (150) 150 grams; 3.5 (3.5) 3.5 // 3.5 (5.2) 5.2 ounces.
For a top with ruffles, you will need approx. 50 g (1.7 oz) more yarn.
Totals used depend on the chosen yarn and may vary.
Recommended yarn: Drops Belle, Infinity Cotton Linen, Naco Calico, Gazzal Giza Matte, Botto Poala Norma, Lana Grossa Landlust Sommerseide, Berocco Mykonos.
Before starting, be sure to make and wash the sample. Adjust the size of the needles if it’s needed to achieve the correct gauge.
