I have suggested worsted weight yarn, because if you follow the pattern exactly as written you will end up with an adult size hat. However, the “pattern” is really a formula that is easily adjusted to other sizes, by making fewer decrease rounds, or using lighter weight yarn and smaller hooks.

Conversely, you can use lighter weight yarn and smaller hooks and make an adult size hat by making more increase rounds. Or an adult size hat making fewer increase rounds by using a heavier weight yarn and larger hooks.

In other words, this pattern is infinitely adjustable and easy to memorize.

It is suitable for beginners to learn to crochet in the round and to learn basic principles of increasing and sizing.

It’s also great for the experienced crocheter to use as a charity pattern or when you need a fast pattern.
