Basic Fingering Weight Socks for the Family
SKILLS USED: Basics, knitting in the round, shaping (increasing/decreasing), picking up sts.
SIZES: infant (child small, shoe size 3-8 / child medium, shoe size 8-13 / child large and adult small / adult medium (ladies) / adult large (men))
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Leg circumference: 5” (6” / 7” / 7.5” / 8” / 8.5”) - please note: ribbed socks will be quite narrower but should be stretchable to these measurements. Leg length from cast on edge to bottom of heel: regular length - 4.5” (6.5” / 8.25” / 9.5” / 11” / 12.5”), short summer length – 3” (3.75” / 4.25” / 4.75” / 6” / 6.5”). Foot length: 4.75” (5.25” / 6.5” / 8” / 9” / 9.75”).
MATERIALS NEEDED: for regular length socks - 145 (185 / 220 / 300 / 360 / 450) yards of fingering weight sock yarn (superwash wool and nylon blend) – (short summer socks use approximately 25% less than the given amounts), 1 set of five double pointed needles in US #1.5 (2.5 mm) or US#2 (2.75 or 3 mm), 6” or 7” length or size needed to obtain gauge (please note: if using a cotton blend sock yarn, a US #1 (2.25 mm) needle may be needed to get the correct gauge), one card of sock reinforcement thread (optional but recommended when using yarn that does not have nylon reinforcement already in it).
