Basic Knit Afghan I
This is a very basic knit afghan pattern. It is all knit. Ideal for beginners, but anyone can make it and change it up by changing colors after every needle change. It is worked on 2 needle sizes. As you change the needle size the afghan texture changes and produces a soft scalloped edge. When you see the pictures the second one is the front side which shows 5 large ridge rows and 2 small ridge rows. The last picture is the back of the afghan and shows 4 large ridge rows and 4 small ridge rows.
It was designed in 3 different sizes, that way you can make a receiving blanket for a new born, a medium size blanket of a kid and a full size blanket for adults. This is the reason that the yardage goes from 640 yards to 2,250 yards. I have also went one step further and figured out the quantity of yarn in meters for our European friends..
Most worsted weight yarns will work. I use 100% Acrylic yarns from Carlton Yarn for newborns so not to irritate the baby’s skin and Wool/Acrylic blend from Plymouth for adults so they will have a warm and soft afghan to cuddle up in on those long winter nights.
All the materials needed are the 2 sizes of needles and enough yarn to complete the afghan. Buying it all at once insures you have all the same dye lot.
