This is a basic knit afghan pattern. It is all Knit. Ideal for beginners. This is the next step up from Basic Knit Afghan I. It is like a sampler because you are working some new stitches that you would be using on many other projects as your knitting ability increases. Anyone ca make it and change it up by changing colors after every pattern change. Along with the Garter Stitch (Knit every row) there are Yarn Overs (YO) and Slip Stitches (Sl st) and Knit 2 stitches together (K2tog) which gives the afghan a variety of textures. The good thing is it’s all knit, no purling at all except when you do the slip stitch, You slip the stitches as if to purl, but do not really purl it. There is also a short row were the drop stitch is on the edge. This allow room for the drop stitch to be completely drop at edge. The last photo is a closeup of the short row.
It was designed in 3 different sizes, that way you can make a receiving blanket for a newborn, a medium size blanket for a kid and a full size blanket for an adult. This is the reason that the yardage goes from 875 to 2,075 yards. I have also went one step further and figured out the quantity of yarn in meters for our European friends.
Most worsted weight yarns will work. I use 100% Acrylic yarns from Carlton Yarn for the newborns so not to irritate the baby’s skin and a Wool/Acrylic blend from Plymouth for adults so they will have a warm and soft afghan to cuddle up in on those long winter nights.
All the materials you will need to complete the afghan is the size 10 needles and enough yarn in the same dye lot to compete the afghan.
