This easy 12-inch (30 cm) square uses the moss stitch (aka linen stitch or granite stitch) and a single color of yarn. Great for afghans, blankets, throws, shawls, kitchen mats, pillow covers, and tote bags.

Simple design – works up quickly!
Easy pattern - no blocking required!
Turned after every round - no swirling!
Joined at corners - invisible seam!
Worked center out – perfect square with 90-degree corners!
Beautiful moss stitch - completely reversible!

The main part of the written pattern contains 3 pages of text, with a link to a 13.5-minute YouTube video tutorial that demonstrates this unique construction technique. Therefore, to get the most out of this pattern, you will want to take advantage of the video, along with the written pattern.

Included in the written pattern are also two photo tutorials, on separate pages, to save you ink and paper. The first photo tutorial shows the same method as demonstrated in the video. The second photo tutorial shows how to work an optional slip-stitch border on the final round.

This square would make a lovely companion piece to my other 12-inch square patterns:
