Basic Nonsense Fibonacci Cowl
This pattern is part of The Bendigo Project 2025 and will be published on Saturday 8th of March 2025.
The theme for The Bendigo Project in 2025 is stripes, and they are very much present in all of the designs, but with delightful variety: changing directions, textures, rhythm and sequence!

The Bendigo Project Knitalong will commence Sunday 16th March at 2pm via Zoom, and will conclude with a meet up at The Australian Sheep and Wool Show, in Bendigo, Saturday July 19th 2025.
I love stripes, but I get bored quickly if I am knitting only in stockinette, so I have added a mesh texture to this cowl.
As an homage to my love of all things nerdy, I’ve used the Fibonacci sequence as the inspiration for the stripes within this cowl. The Fibonacci sequence is a naturally occurring mathematical phenomenon where every number is the sum of the two numbers before it. If you start at 1, the sequence is as follows:
1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55…
Designed using 5ply (sport weight) Australian SRS Merino sourced from Great Southern Yarns, and knit using 4.00mm and 3.75mm needles, this cowl is a single size, and is perfect for stash busting and gift knitting. This pattern is aimed at adventurous beginners, and is unisex in its design, meaning it can be worn by men and women
Design Features:
Mesh, stockinette, 2x2 ribbing, knit in the round, jogless colour joins
Yarn Requirements:
Colour A: 100g 5ply SRS Merino
Colour B: 50g 5ply SRS Merino
Both skeins used in the sample were Great Southern Yarns, 5ply (Sport) 100% SRS Merino, 280m/307y per 100g/3.5oz

1x 60cm/24in 3.75mm (US 5) circular needle

1x 60cm cable + 4mm (US 6) and 3.75mm (US 5) interchangeable tips.
