A very basic oven mitt pattern for a beginner crocheter. This is one of the first things I made for myself after learning how to crochet. For the most part, you simply crochet backwards and forwards in single or double crochet (US). The oven mitt is made in one long strip consisting of a single crochet section, then a (thinner) double crochet section, then a final single crochet section. The single crochet section at each end is folded over twice and joined together at the sides to create a double thickness pocket for the hands. The double crochet section joins the two pockets together. The pattern is completely adjustable.

Use any worsted weight 100% cotton yarn to make this oven mitt. (My finished oven mitt weighs approximately 13oz or 370g. This is approximately 680-880 yards. Sorry I can’t be more precise, since the oven mitt shown uses a stash-busting mix of Reynolds Saucy mercerized cotton, Mission Falls 1824 Cotton, and Classic Elite Seedling cotton yarns.)

I used a small hook relative to the yarn I used, so that the fabric is dense. The tightness of the fabric produced is more important than the correct gauge. Don’t hesitate to go down a hook size or two depending on the type of yarn.
