Basic Stitches
A beginner’s delight - a basic cowl easily worked in the round with a single skein of worsted weight or DK yarn, designed specifically for new knitters coming out of a Learn to Knit class and looking for a first project to grow their skills.
.
Learn:
knitting in the round,
yarn over,
k2tog,
ssk,
simple 2x2 cable,
using stitch markers,
reading a pattern,
and reading a chart.
Choose either:
DK yarn (275 yards) and size 5 and 7 needles, 24 inch length
or
worsted yarn (220 yards) and size 6 and 8 needles, 24 inch length
Customizable, too! Cast on in multiples of 14 to enlarge the cowl’s circumference, or eliminate rows in the stockinette sections for a narrower cowl. Substitute a ribbing edge, such as K2, P1 instead of the garter stitch as written.
update to stitches used:
C6B - slip 3 stitches to a cable needle and hold in back, knit 3 stitches, then knit 3 from cable needle
10/28/2023 update to pdfs available:
