Basic Two At A Time Toe Up Sock
This pattern was developed when I discovered I was addicted to knitting socks, but unhappy with other patterns, so I wrote my own. Tried and tested, I used this pattern to teach classes in two at a time toe up socks, using one needle and the magic loop method. Never have socks that don’t fit, run out of yarn, or experience second sock syndrome with this pattern.
Gauge isn’t essential to this project! Use the needle size recommended on your ball band for the best effect.
Since this is a custom sized pair of socks you’ll be trying them on several times while knitting to ensure a proper fit. In general, one 100g ball of sock yarn will make a pair of socks for a women’s size 7 - 9 and will come up to mid calf. If you’re making a men’s pair, or will be going much longer in the length of your sock you may want to purchase a second ball to make sure you have enough yarn. If you are knitting for someone else’s feet, have them handy to try them on or get a tracing of their foot to use as a guide.
This pattern is suitable for someone knitting socks for the first time, techniques include magic loop, figure 8 cast on, two socks knit at one time. The slip stitch technique used on the heel reinforces that area, and also makes a nice soft stepping spot on the bottom of your socks. Since they are seamless, your toes won’t be irritated and you won’t have to wear them inside out!
There is a tutorial for this cast on, with photos so it’s easy to follow.
