Although these instructions have been written using double pointed needles, other techniques may be used, including magic loop (using one long circular needle) or 2 circular needles (refer to books specializing in these techniques).
Choose a sock size based more on the individual’s leg/foot circumference and not foot length. The length is easily adjusted during the knitting process as explained in the pattern.
This sock pattern includes pattern options for stockinette stitch or 2 x 2 rib (which can be continued down the length of the foot, great for a narrower foot). Lengths for both the leg length and foot length can be adjusted but yardage requirements will then vary.

SKILLS USED: Basics, knitting in the round, shaping (increasing/decreasing), picking up sts.

SIZES: infant (child small, shoe size 3-8 / child medium, shoe size 8-13 / child large and adult small / adult medium (ladies) / adult large (men)).

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Leg circumference: 5.25” (6” / 6.5” / 7.25” / 8” / 8.5”) - please note: ribbed socks will be quite narrower but should be stretchable to these measurements.
Leg length from cast on edge to bottom of heel: 4.5” (6.5” / 8.25” / 9.5” / 11” / 12.5”).
Foot length: 4.75” (5.25” / 6.5” / 8” / 9” / 9.75”).

MATERIALS NEEDED: for regular length socks - 110 (140 / 160 / 250 / 310 / 320) yards of worsted weight superwash wool, 1 set of five double pointed needles in US #4 (3.5 mm), 6” or 7” length or size needed to obtain gauge, one card of sock reinforcement thread (optional but recommended when using yarn that does not have nylon reinforcement already in it).
