As a bagpiper, I’ve worn store bought kilt hose for nearly 25 years, and have been disappointed with quality and variety available in the market. Searching for kilt hose patterns gave few results that qualify as actual kilt hose, and those I tried were difficult for me to follow and seemed unnecessarily challenging. I’ve worked for 3 years to design the Basket Weave and Cable Kilt Hose, making sure that their modular design made sense and flowed well. The pattern has been tested several times, and I am now satisfied enough with the results to release the pattern to you! Charts are provided, along with written instructions for charted sections so you can work the way YOU choose.

This kilt hose pattern is carefully written to provide easy to follow instructions for the knitter with moderate skills. They feature a cabled shin, multiple textured patterns around, and a fitted calf. The cuffs and calf use a basket weave texture and two options for binding off.

The pattern is written in 1 size, with adjustments for shoe size and leg length. They should fit men’s US shoe sizes 6 - 11 wide. The calf is the limiting dimension, this pattern will fit up to a 16” calf approximately.
