The Crochet Bat is a versatile pattern that allows you to customize the look of your bat! Choose whether you’ll make your Bat in a smoother worsted weight yarn or the furry yarn (Note: Furry yarns take practice to work with). Will you keep your wings a solid color or add additional topstitching? Do you want a solid or two-toned colored ear? Mix and match as you build your own colony of bats!
The Crochet Bat is great for gifts, play, decor, and holiday decoration.
PATTERN INFORMATION
- Your PDF purchase includes written instructions and helpful photographs to aid in construction.
- The pattern is written in English using US crochet terminology.
- The patterns are formatted to have one featured image at the beginning of the pattern for reference, important images for construction within the pattern, and all other full-sized images at the end for easy, optional printing.
SKILLS NEEDED
- Advanced Beginner to Advanced. Based on the choice of yarn and techniques used the Crochet Bat varies in difficulty. Fur yarns are more difficult to work with, so using a smooth worsted weight yarn makes the project more beginner-friendly. The topstitching on the wings can also be omitted, if desired, to further simplify the pattern.
- The techniques you will need to know include: chain, single crochet, slip stitch, increase, regular and invisible decrease, working in the back bar of the chain, adjustable (magic) ring, and surface stitching (optional).
MATERIALS NEEDED
+ To complete the Crochet Bat you will need: yarn in your choice of colors (about 95 yds/87 m of worsted/aran for the Smooth Bat and about 102 yds/93 m for the Furry Bat), a size E/4 (3.5 mm) crochet hook, a size H/8 (5.00 mm) if making the Furry Bat, stitch markers, tapestry needle, stuffing, pins, scissors, chopstick to help stuff, 15 mm safety eyes, and 12 inches (30.5 cm) of 1/8 inch ribbon (optional for hanging).
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
- Furry Bat measures approximately 6 inches (15.24 cm) tall to the top of the ear, 13 inches (33 cm) around the widest part of the body, and 13 inches (33 cm) wide from wing tip to wing tip.
- The Smooth Bat measures approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall to the top of the ear, 11 inches (28 cm) around the widest part of the body, and 11 inches (28 cm) wide from wing tip to wing tip.
