This is a mainly written pattern for a windspinner in the shape of a hanging bat. A nice item for Halloween! There are some pictures included in the pattern.

The level is intermediate.

Stitches and (US-)terms used for this pattern:

  • foundation chain
  • sc starting chain = single crochet starting chain
  • ch = chain
  • slst = slipstitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • trc = treble crochet
  • dtrc = double treble crochet
  • crabstitch, (optional hdc crabstitch, dc crabstitch) = crochet backwards
  • hdc incr (or dc incr etc.)= crochet hdc 2 (or dc 2 etc.) in the same stitch
  • decr = decrease = crochet 2 stitches together
  • flo = frontloop only

Materials you need for this project:

  • black yarn: I used Scheepjes Colourcrafter and a 3.5 mm hook and a 3.0 mm hook. My bat windspinner was about 25 cm long (almost 10 inch). I used less than 20 grams of black yarn (= less than 60 m or 64 yards).

You also need:
-a short piece of white or glow in the dark yarn for the eyes
-a short piece of pink or light brown for the mouth and nose
-some stuffing for head and body
-a piece of wire, about 20 cm (8 inches), and some brown yarn for the branch
-a piece of yarn or (nylon) cord to be able to hang the windspinner.
