This is a bulky weight, stash-busting cowl inspired by Ravelry’s highlighted technique section. I was looking for a color-work pattern for a gift for my father. He had only ever received a few basic garter stitch scarves from me, years ago, so I figured it was time to up the ante. I wanted it to keep him warm while he was skiing, so I dove into my stash for something heavier than a fingering-weight, and in neutral colors. I wanted a cowl that was sturdy, fit easily over the head, and one that was not meant to be wound around the neck.
Once it was knit up, the neutral colors, combined with the new-to-me technique named ‘corrugated ribbing,’ I decided to name it the Bath Iron Works Cowl, for Maine’s large ship-building company situated on the coast. Do they have shipping containers? I don’t know, but I hope so. Happy knitting!
