Bathville: Reinforced heels, soles and toes
Bathville: socks with reinforced heels, soles and toes.
These beautiful knitted socks in 3 sizes, with contrast cuff, heel, and toes, are quite special.
They were designed for a sister who loves walking her dog in the lovely Scottish countryside, open parkland, ancient woodland, often wilder mountain areas. Wherever it is, she wears her sturdy boots, so she wants socks that can be folded over the laces, or left long to tuck in her trouser legs in to keep out ticks and thistles.
AND she really doesn’t want to be darning holes in the heels and under the toe area.
This design features a unique reinforcement method invented by the Wee Duchess: the leg and top of the foot are knitted in easy stocking stitch, but the heel, sole and toe are worked in partridge stitch to give more strength to the parts that wear out the quickest. To compensate for the different tensions, additional rows are worked on the sole section.
The Wee Duchess provided plenty of tips and hints as you knit with clear instructions how to do this.
Yarn: you will need 1 ball of a main colour and about 25g of a contrast colour for the cuff, heels and toes.
