A simple but effective cowl design with a corrugated OR plain ribbed edge and an art nouveau inspired fair isle bat and moon design. The cowl is worked in the round using the stranded colourwork technique. My preference is for the two handed method.

NEEDLES:
24”/60cm circular needles in sizes:
3.25mm (US 3) for ribbing and
3.75mm (US 5) for colour work.

YARN:
Two well contrasting colours in DK/8 ply yarn, approx. 200m of each colour, a wool or wool blend is preferred.

MC - main colour (the darker colour). I have used black.
CC - contrast colour (the lighter colour). I have used purple.

I have used ‘Tranquility’ yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills 400m/200g, which I hand dyed. This is a standard DK/8 ply yarn, 75% wool, 20% nylon, 5% silk.

NOTIONS:
Tapestry needle, stitch markers - one unique marker for beginning of round, 6 more if you would like to mark the pattern repeats of the fair isle.

SIZING AND GAUGE:

One size, when finished and blocked:
13“ W X 14“ H/ 33cm W X 35.5cm H laid flat (26“/66cm circumference)

Approximately 22 sts and 24 rounds for 4”/10cm square in colourwork pattern after blocking. Gauge is not crucial to this project.
