Batwing Drop Sleeve V-Neck Tunic Top

A fairly quick and easy crochet pattern using ‘granny square’ style motifs. These motifs join together in a particular order to create a drop sleeve batwing tunic top that is slightly fitted around the hips and then drapes beautifully on top. The piece was constructed with less than two skeins of yarn (about $6). Looks great over a tank top and shorts, or a camisole and leggings. It can also be used as a lightweight coverup for the beach or pool. The motifs and trim use basic stitches and the pattern crochets quickly. A great pattern for someone looking for a relatively quick weekend crochet project.
Finished Size
Laid flat (unstretched): Total width is about 17” across the top (underarm) and increasing to 19” across at the hemline. The top is about 27” long from shoulder to hem . It is a “one-size-fits-most” pattern. The motifs are designed to stretch. For a smaller size or more form-fitting top use a 3.5 - 4.5 mm hook, or omit a round of the motif pattern and join the remaining spaces accordingly.
The garment has considerable give as it is an open crochet, and the motifs have significant stretch, but if you want to adjust this for a fuller figure, you can increase the hook size to a 5.5mm hook to make larger motifs or add an additional round to the motifs. You can also add additional motifs to the front and back bottom rows if you’d like to make the garment bigger/wider at the bottom perimeter.
