Bauhaus Blanket
The Bauhaus was an art school in Germany that combined fine arts with craft. The Bauhaus principles of style and design are based on a minimalist approach which features clean lines with bold, simple coloration.
The clean lines of this blanket trick the eye with their interrupted diagonals and differently sized squares. Using only simple knitting techniques and two colours, the blanket is made up of 63 mitred squares in two sizes: 10cm/4” and 20cm/8”. The whole is edged with a deep border. Garter stitch makes for a warm blanket.
Skills needed
Suitable for beginners, this blanket demands only basic knitting skills. There is no seaming and weaving in is kept to a minimum.
An easy to read chart guides the knitter through the squares in the right order.
Swatch first!
The sample of this blanket was knitted in an Aran weight on US4/3.5mm needles. Stitch counts are given in the pattern for this particular yarn weight and these are easily substituted for your own stitch counts once you have found how many you need for the squares. The large square should be precisely twice as many stitches as the small.
Materials needed
- Two colours of your chosen yarn. Suitable for all yarn weights and for combining yarns to achieve the desired yarn weight.
- 60cm circular needles in required size
- Extra-long cable for the edge (200cm works well)
- 4 stitch markers
- Darning needle for weaving in ends
Note
This is my first published pattern and it hasn’t been test knitted or tech edited. I will do my best to answer any questions and feedback that helps clarify instructions and fixes errors in the pattern is truly appreciated!
