Wiping her hands on her worn apron she took one last look at the table setting and smiled. These teacups had been present at so many family gatherings during her childhood, and now she was using them in her own home to create memories. Yes, grandma would be happy if she were here to see these teacups grace the table.
Bavaria Leaves is a cuff down sock decorated along the side with little leaves. These leaves are reminiscent of the leaves on my grandmother’s teacup, which is what inspired this sock design. The three contrast colors for the leaves are then used for the cuffs, heels and toes - giving these socks a scrappy sock feel, which further reminds me of my grandmother who endlessly patched her clothes and never let anything go to waste.
Choosing to use three contrast colors for the leaves, means you will have a lot of ends to weave in. If weaving in ends makes you want to cry, you can also knit these socks in one color, using your main color for the leaves and never breaking your yarn! One of my testers knit this pattern using one color only, and her socks are gorgeous.
I would love to see how you interpret this pattern and colors that you will choose! If you are inspired by your own teacup, it would be lovely if you posted a picture of your socks with that teacup.
This pattern is written in five sizes - XS, S, M, L and XL using 56, 60, 64, 68 and 72 stitches. If you have another stitch count preference, you can easily tailor this pattern to fit that stitch count as the design is along one side of the sock only.
This pattern has been tech edited and test knit.
Bavaria Leaves is also part of a three pattern eBook - Teacup Sock Collection.
