Bay Beanie
Pattern Notes:
The Bay Beanie is a classic beanie for the transitional months of summer into fall. It’s made for those who tend to be warm blooded and run hot, but still want to wear a cozy beanie. The Bay Beanie is made from the brim up, started on smaller needles for a stretchy cast on, then switched to larger needles for the body of the beanie.
Sizes:
Baby, child, adult size 1, adult size 2.
Yarn:
Any worsted weight yarn that meets gauge. If using a cotton/bamboo yarn, try and find one with a little bit of nylon to help hold structure.
Yarn amount is an estimate that includes gauge swatching and will depend on desired length of beanie. You will require less yarn if you knit the beanie shorter.
Baby - 150 meters, 164 yards
Child - 172 meters, 188 yards
Adult:
Size 1 - 206 meters, 225 yards
Size 2 - 235 meters, 257 yards
Other Materials:
Scissors, darning needle, stitch markers, and measuring tape.
Gauge:
10 cm x 10 cm (4 inch X 4 inch)
28 stitches X 34 rows in 1 x 1 rib stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needles. This is measured without stretching the fabric. I suggest blocking your gauge swatch before you begin, as plant yarns can be stretchy!
Needles:
3.5 and 4 mm (US size 4 and 6) circular needles. Cord lengths can be 32, 60, or 80 cm (12, 24, or 30 inches). Keep in mind that if you are making the baby or child size beanie, you may need to use magic loop, or 3.5 mm (US 4) double pointed needles throughout the entire project.
4 mm (US 6) double pointed needles.
Yarn Options:
The sample is knitted with Vegan Yarn Hyades eco worsted, a blend of tencel, cotton, and nylon. 100 grams = 172 meters (188 yards). The sample used the medium teal color.
The sample used 120 grams, 206 meters (225 yards) of yarn for adult size 1.
