Be Born Earflap Cap
I spent a fall and winter working at a local photo studio, and aside from the obligatory family Christmas photo our bread and butter was baby photos, especially newborns. The most requested props for these shoots were always matching diaper covers and hats, and a number of clients came in with their own mass-produced versions to coordinate with the baby’s blanket. So when I was writing the pattern for my Be Born blanket (and subsequently making one for my incoming nephew) and I had some yarn left over, I decided it would be great to make a coordinating set to go with the blanket. That way you could use this heirloom blanket in your baby pictures with a handmade matching set, and your grandbabies could do the same! At the very least, it makes a great addition to the blanket as a part of a new mom gift. I hope you enjoy! Thanks to Rachy Lewinson & tester Monique Colas for their help!
Materials
• Between 70 and 90 yards of worsted weight yarn – I used the leftovers from my Be Born blanket. Of course we suggest MollyGirl Rock Star, but any worsted weight yarn will do.
• Crochet hook of your preference; I suggest an I or J size hook. Gauge is not critical (this is quite a stretchy hat), so hook size isn’t either. It may however affect your yardage usage so if you crochet more loosely, I would advise you to use a smaller hook.
Pattern Notes
• As stated above, I simply used the leftovers from my Be Born blanket, and that determined how many stripes of what color I did. The instructions below do not announce color changes, but if you are working this as a part of a set or making it from our kit (yay!) and wish to follow my sample exactly, I have detailed my motif at the bottom.
