Be My Lobster
Thank you to Friends Lobsters have become synonymous with Valentine’s and Love, I love lobsters anyway, and have been trying to design the perfect lobster sock for a long time. Finally I have one I’m happy with!
They are knitted from the cuff down, with a large stranded colourwork lobster motif on the leg, a simple heel flap construction, a straight forward “vanilla” foot with a little repeat of the hearts colourwork before the toe.
The pattern is written for 3 sizes, small (UK 5-6), medium (UK 6-7) and large (UK 7-8), but is very easily customizable to fit your own foot. As you’re knitting from the cuff down, you can slip your work over your foot to check the fit of the leg, heel and foot as you go.
Suitable for confident knitters with knitting knowledge of casting on, knitting in the round and joining in the round, stranded colour work and kitchener stitch - there is a video tutorial available for this step. The colourwork section of this sock is not for the faint hearted, it’s large and could seem daunting to beginners, so I wouldn’t recommend this pattern if you haven’t knitted stranded colourwork socks before.
I’ve knitted these socks using Drops Fabel 4ply sock wool in Turquoise, Red and Rust and the main background colour is well as West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4ply in Seascape.
You can knit the socks in any colour you like - I would love to see what you all come up with - but you will need approximately 50g of your main background colour, 25g for the cuff, heel and toe, 10g for the hearts and around 20g for the lobsters.
Any 4 ply sock yarn will do, however, the gauge I’ve worked to is 30 stitches x 36 rows using 2.5mm double pointed needles - you can use a circular needle and the magic loop method if you prefer.
I have tried to make this pattern as user friendly as possible, but will provide you with my email address when you download the pattern, if you have any issues at all, do get in touch and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my listing, if you have any questions before purchasing, do get in touch.
Happy Knitting! x
