Beach Walk Blanket
The design of this blanket was inspired by walks along a windswept Scottish beach near my home. The colours, particularly of the pebbles washed up by the tide were at first glance, many shades of grey and brown, but looking closely there were glimpses of brighter colours among the stones - oranges, mauves, lilacs and greens.
The colour is possibly more important in this design than the actual stitch pattern. I chose simple basic stitches in order to let the colour take central stage, and have combined granny squares of different sizes with bands of granny stripe between.
The pattern can therefore tackled by a beginner and there is a step by step tutorial with lots of photos for each part of the blanket.
The finished blanket measures 56 x 56 inches, suitable for the top of a double (4’6”) bed, or as a generous sofa throw.
It uses 18 balls of Stylecraft Special DK, 2 of Deramores Studio DK, 2 of Scheepjes Colour Crafter and 6 balls of Stylecraft Batik.
