About the pattern:
This pattern is inspired by the ocean and the many colors you can see in the coastal waves. The braided handles create a fun texture plus added sturdiness. I created this pattern in two sizes, large and small.

Skill level: advanced beginner

Materials Needed:
• (5) - 4oz skeins of 100% cotton yarn, weight 4, in five different colors. (more info below)
- 1 tan (sand color)
- 1 dark blue (color A)
- 1 medium blue (color B)
- 1 medium/light blue (color C)
- 1 light blue (color D)
(see color charts on page 10)
• Size H (5 mm) crochet hook
• Stitch Markers
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Finished Size (laying flat):
Large = Body of bag is approx 17” tall x 16” wide, with 30” handles
Small = Body of bag is approx 11” tall x 11.5” wide, with 17” handle

Gauge: 4” x 4” = 14 st x 16 rows of wave stitch

Yarn Usage:
Large = approx 11.5 oz /546 yards
Small = approx 5.75 oz /272 yards

About the Yarn:

  • For a gradient effect in the wave section, use four colors in various shades of the same hue. Feel free to experiment though! Color charts included.
  • I like Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn, as it is a stiffer yarn that gives the bag good structure. Any weight 4 cotton yarn should work though. Acrylic won’t be good, as it will stretch too much.
