This stole was my entry in the Little Knits Schaefer Trenna lace designing competition - I was fortunate enough to gain 5th place overall.

Designed to remind me of all the wonderful walks across my favourite local beach, this stole utilizes stitches with names that evoke the seaside such as Sand Stitch, Gull Wing lace, and Wave lace border, as well of course, as the shells!

The stole is worked in a traditional Shetland manner, by knitting the first border, picking up the stitches across the top of the border, knitting the main body of the stole and then knitting on the second border as it is worked. The nupps used to give the shells texture could be replaced by seed beads added during the knitting using the crochet hook method if nupps are really not your thing.
